This is a very special copy of the 1953 hardback biography on Battle of Britain Ace leader Albert ‘Sailor’ Malan. The rare book includes a bookplate featuring an original pencil drawing of Sailor Malan by Steve Teasdale which has been signed in pencil by 74 Sqn Spitfire Pilot Johnny Freeborn. Johnny Freeborn is mentioned many times in the book, having flown with Sailor as his wingman on many occasions. To make this copy even more special we have mounted a genuine plastic Ops room number tile underneath the drawing. This tile is number 74 and could well have represented 74 Sqn on the Ops room table during the Battle of Britain. Whilst the book is in very good condition with little spotting or wear the dustjacket has been extensively taped and would benefit from a replacement at some point in the future. There is an extra photocopy cover to wrap over the top to make the book tidier.
