This rare 1966 first edition was part of the Robert Wright collection ( please see previous posts ). It has been flat signed by Battle of Britain fighter ace Tom Gleave, who was a good friend of Bob Wright. Gleave was also C/O of 85 Sqn during WW2, hence the connection with Mannock. The book is a faithful reproduction of Mannock’s war diary and has been further enhanced with an original pencil drawing remarque of Mannock by Steve Teasdale. The book is in very good condition with minimal browning. The dustjacket has been laminated with plastic ( very neatly ) which is browning.
Edward Corringham "Mick" Mannock VC, DSO & Two Bars, MC & Bar (24 May 1887 – 26 July 1918) was a British-Irish flying ace who served in the Royal Flying Corps and Royal Air Force during the First World War. Mannock was a pioneer of fighter aircraft tactics in aerial warfare. At the time of his death he had amassed 61 aerial victories, making him the fifth highest scoring pilot of the war. Mannock was among the most decorated men in the British Armed Forces. He was honoured with the Military Cross twice, was one of the rare three-time recipients of the Distinguished Service Order, and was posthumously awarded the Victoria Cross.
