This is a 1956 third impression copy of Pat Reid’s Colditz story follow up. The book tells the story of Colditz Castle from 1942-1945. The book has been enhanced with a bookplate bearing an original pencil drawing of Douglas Bader ( who was incarcerated at the Castle during this time ) by Steve Teasdale. Bader’s genuine signature has been professionally mounted underneath the drawing. A further four specially produced bookplates have been mounted into the book. In total they have an amazing 12 signatures from Colditz veterans, many of whom are listed in the book, along with their nicknames. The signatures are: Weldon, McCall, Lochrane, Mellor, Chesshire, Ferguson, Harvey, Dubois, Vercoe, Miller, Drew and Elms Neale. The book is in good condition for its age, having been produced only ten years after the war. The rare dustjacket has a couple of tears and bumps and there are tape stains on the inside flaps, some of which has transferred onto the first page showing the map ( see photos) but they don’t detract from what is a special copy of this rare to find book.
