This is a specially produced bookplate created on sepia recycled card. It features an original pencil drawing with white highlights of Polish fighter pilot Pilkington-Miksa. Underneath the drawing is the professionally mounted genuine pencil signature of Miksa.

On the 11th September, days before the fall of Warsaw, he was instructed by the C-in-C of the Polish Air Force to fly a final reconnaissance sortie which provided crucial evidence for the decision to evacuate the Polish Air Force to Romania and finally to France.

Miksa was sent to the flying school at Lyon-Bron to train on the MS406, he flew this in combat once the German onslaught began. After the French collapse he escaped to England, arriving on 16th July 1940. He was posted to 5 OTU Aston Down on 25th September to convert to Hurricanes and then joined 303 Squadron at Leconfield on 23rd October, serving with it in the final month of the Battle of Britain.

Miksa was known as ‘Wlodek’ by his squadron colleagues. He moved to 315 (City of Deblin) Polish Fighter Squadron at Acklington on its formation on 21st January 1941. Miksa destroyed a Me109, probably destroyed another and damaged a third on 21st October. He was awarded the KW (gazetted 20th January 1942) and appointed a Flight Commander on 20th June 1942.

Miksa was next posted to 58 OTU Grangemouth as an instructor on 5th April 1943 and was awarded a Bar to the KW (gazetted 12th May 1943) and a second Bar (gazetted 7th July 1943). After going to 61 OTU Rednal on 14th October 1943, he joined 302 Squadron at Northolt on the 18th. Miksa was given command of 317 Squadron, also at Northolt, on 1st January 1944. He was posted away on 25th August for liaison duties at HQ 12 Group.

Awarded the VM (5th Class)(gazetted 7th September 1944) Miksa went to HQ Fighter Command on Operations duty on 15th May 1945. He was awarded the DFC (gazetted 26th May 1945). He was released from the Polish Air Force in February 1946 and awarded a third Bar to the KW (gazetted 31st October 1947).
