This beautiful and highly detailed original drawing by Steve Teasdale is signed in pencil by 12 Battle of Britain veterans, including Geoffrey Wellum. It depicts Ian ‘Widge’ Gleed of 87 Sqn who was famous for the ‘Figaro’ cat artwork painted on his hurricane and spitfire.
The drawing is A3 in size and features a subtle amount of colour on the Figaro artwork. The photograph with the mount is purely for display purposes and the mount will not be included in the sale. Currently stored flat the drawing will be posted in a tube.
Wing Commander Ian Richard Gleed DSO, DFC (3 July 1916 – 16 April 1943), nicknamed "Widge," was a Royal Air Force (RAF) pilot and flying ace credited with the destruction of 13 enemy aircraft during the Second World War.[5] He served in the Battle of France and Battle of Britain before being shot down and killed over Tunisia.[2][1] Gleed published a fictionalized memoir, Arise to Conquer, in 1942
