This 1966 account of the Battle of Britain by Ronald Clark is in very good condition with slight creasing to the top of the dustjacket spine with a tiny piece missing (see photo). The book is pretty clean apart from this. What makes it unique is that it belonged to Flt Lt Robert Wright, who was Dowding’s assistant and confidant during the Battle of Britain. Robert Wright was a huge advocate of Dowding and was witness to the way he was treated by the higher command after the Battle of Britain. He was the only author who was given permission by Dowding to write his biography, which Wright did in the 1960’s. Wright flew in 85 Sqn with John Cunningham later in the war & became a Guinea Pig under Archibald McIndoe when he suffered burns in a mosquito crash. He wrote many books including Nightfighter with Jimmy Rawnsley and was also a technical advisor for the 1969 Battle of Britain movie. The book is flat signed by Robert Wright ( a rare signature in itself) and has been enhanced with a pencil portrait of Hugh Dowding by Steve Teasdale. The book has been extensively underlined and annotated by Robert Wright - no doubt when he was researching his own book on Dowding and the Battle of Britain, written shortly after. A unique copy taken from the Robert Wright collection.
